Township Police Introduces Inaugural Youth Police Academy
Posted on 07/12/2021
Northville Township Police Department is offering its first-ever Youth Police Academy for Township high school students in grades 10-12. It runs Aug. 9-13 from 10 am-3 pm. Lunch will be provided. The application deadline is July 23.

This is a student’s chance to wear the many hats of a police officer. Not only will they get to explore law enforcement as a career, but they’ll learn how to keep a neighborhood safe and understand the value of community involvement through this hands-on experience.

Participants will work with a crime analyst and evidence technicians, getting the opportunity to lift fingerprints to simulate evidence collection. They’ll head to the firearms range to explore weapons. They’ll learn how to use a laser radar gun to clock a motorist’s speed. They’ll also experience life as a dispatch officer, ordinance enforcer and study the cruisers, motorcycles and bikes officers use, and more.

The program is free.
