SUPERVISOR UPDATE REGARDING JOHNSON CREEK
Posted on 08/14/2020

On Wednesday, August 12, Christine Alexander,  EGLE Permits Section Manager responded to Supervisor Nix request for an update on ADS permits. Based on EGLE’s concerns regarding the applications, ADS requested that applications be placed on hold while they seek alternatives for disposal without discharging into Johnson Creek. This action eliminated any immediate concerns for discharging into Johnson Creek. The Township will continue to monitor the situation and will aggressively pursue the matter if applications are reactivated.

JUNE 29th UPDATE

Northville Township recently learned that Advanced Disposal Services (ADS) has submitted two NPDES permit applications requesting permission to discharge leachate from the Arbor Hills East Landfill and contaminated storm water run-off from the Compost facility located north of the landfill into Johnson Creek. Johnson Creek is the only cold-water trout stream in Wayne County and is an irreplaceable resource for our community. The residents of Northville Township and the leadership of the Township oppose the approval of these applications because any discharge by ADS will cause irreparable harm to Johnson Creek.
