Northville Youth Assistance (NYA) is a volunteer-supported organization that provides social services to youths and their families. NYA is a shared service between Northville Township and the City of Northville, with support of the Northville Public School District. The program’s vision is a community where all Northville youth feel valued, successful, safe, supported, engaged and prepared for adulthood. In pursuit of this vision, the mission of NYA is to advocate for our youth, in partnership with their families, through mentoring, counseling, and social and academic support.

Job Summary

The NYA Mental Health Professional is responsible for providing case management and therapeutic support services to youth and families as well as to provide programmatic support to and participation in other NYA programs and services. Serving under the direction of the NYA Director, this part-time contract position offers a flexible schedule of approximately 10-12 hours per week.

Essential Duties

  • Provides 1:1 individual and family short-term counseling and intervention support services to youth.
  • Facilitates referrals to external community services.
  • Communicates with law enforcement, juvenile court, school and other referral source personnel on the progress of youth participants.
  • Provide input and support for various NYA programs and services.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and facilitate NYA programs on an as needed basis (i.e., Parenting with Love & Logic workshops, preventative mental health workshops for teens, etc.).
  • Maintains accurate, confidential, complete, timely, and current records for each youth in accordance applicable standards.
  • Maintains professional standards of confidentiality.


  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance & Counseling, Education or other related Human Service field.
  • Professional licensure in Human Services field, such as LPC, LMFT, LMSW, LLP, preferred.
  • Two (2) years of progressive experience in providing youth related services, working with youth ages 5-18 in youth-serving community organizations, schools, churches, or other extracurricular settings required.
  • Strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity and flexibility are essential in assuming significant responsibility.
  • Successfully complete criminal background and other pre-employment record checks.
